Hitting you with the best, not just the most popular music is our goal with the #MusicMondays series and this week we have and underrated gem in singer and producer Brent Faiyaz.

A duel threat on the mic and behind the boards, Faiyaz has not been in the game long but is impressively building his name and his sound. He began uploading his music onto SoundCloud in 2014 releasing songs he wrote, produced, and mixed all himself. A year later he moved from his hometown of Columbia, Maryland to Los Angeles, California to take his music career to the next level. He proceeded to release his debut single “Allure” in 2015 followed by the single “Invite Me” in 2016 . Then on September 19, 2016, his 21st birthday, he released his debut the EP A.M. Paradox to overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Love for music and the craft of making it drives Faiyaz and it can be heard in his music and seen in his work ethic. Musically he pays attention to even the smallest details in his lyrics and the production and mixing of his music. The sounds are soulful and lush and his words and his voice are filled with emotions, sometimes subtle, sometimes bold. Faiyaz even found time to form a group named Sonder with record producers Dpat and Atu, releasing the EP Into in 2017. The EP was also ranked 23rd by Complex on its list of “The Best Albums of 2017 (So Far)” in June of 2017.

In 2018 Faiyaz started collaborating with rapper GoldLink which resulted in his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance with their song “Crew” (which also featured Shy Glizzy). Things are certainly falling into place for this multi-talented creator for The Culture. Focusing on authenticity, Faiyaz makes soulful music exploring the wistful emotions brought on by complex romances and fast living and is doing his part to keep R&B alive for The Culture.
