Today in our #CultureClassics series we feature “Hey Ya” by Outkast.
The Speakerboxxx/Love Below album dropped this week back in 2003 and that classic album was led by this classic single from Andre 3000. The mix of Beatles-esque rock and Prince-like swagger couldn’t be denied. “Hey Ya” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks and digital sales topped the Billboard Hot Digital Tracks for 17 straight weeks. The track reached number one in the United States and four other countries, won a Grammy, and countless other awards. The video, and infectious ode to rockstar TV performances back in the day won Video of The Year at the MTV Video Music Awards and has over 370 million views on YouTube.
Something fresh, something different, “Hey Ya” is a classic for The Culture through and through.
