Pink Sweat$ Music Monday

Honesty is a pillar of soul and R&B music. It is also the name of the breakout single from this week’s #MusicMonday artist, singer Pink Sweat$.

A singer and producer to be exact, David Bowden, known professionally as Pink Sweat$ (don’t forget the $) is as versatile as he is unique. He started making music at the age f 19 after surviving a three year battle with Achalasis, a disorder where there is a failure of smooth muscle fibers to relax, which can cause the lower esophageal sphincter to remain closed making it difficult to swallow. It would be impossible to tell he had throat issues from his silky smooth vocal deliveries now.

Living in the studio, Pink Sweat$ got his first break as a demo vocalist at Sound Stigma Studios, where he discovered his love for production and songwriting alongside singing. He produced in a wide range of genres from hip-hop to country even doing work for Grammy Award winning country group Florida Georgia Line. All of that has helped to shape his own sound which is very open, honest, and vulnerable. More heart and less bravado.

Influenced by artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Kanye West, he struck out on his own musically in 2018 when he released his first single “Honesty”, which caught fire in the streets, reaching #10 on Spotify’s US Viral Chart and just like that, his career was off and running. His debut EP Volume 1 was released in November of 2018, featuring another hit single, “Drama” and he dropped the sequel EP Volume 2 in March of 2019. On top of his talents, Pink Sweat$ is also a prolific young artists with a desire to express himself so be on the lookout for a lot more from this up-and-coming creator for The Culture.

#FunFact: Why the name Pink Sweat$? It started out as a nickname to describe his love for wearing pink sweats virtually every day and eventually it just stuck.
