CULTURE CLASSICS – Yo! MTV Raps Final Cypher

#RunTheCulture

Yo! MTV Raps is a major part of the history of The Culture. It was a pivotal player in bringing hip-hop to the masses helping turn our culture into The Culture. Freestyle cyphers are a fundamental element of hip-hop and therefore a staple of the show. It’s only right the the final Yo! MTV Raps cypher gets the respect its so rightfully deserves.

Launching in 1988 hosts Fab 5 Freddy, Dr. Dre and Ed Lover  had the music, the guests, and the knowledge of everything hip-hop and introduced to the world too many legendary MCs to name here. Just know if they were hot in the late 80’s to mid 90’s, they were on Yo! MTV Raps. The show broke artists, DJs, producers, and even record labels. Yo’s impact cannot be understated.

But all good things must come to an end and in August of 1995 the final episode aired. And they went out with a bang, putting together the most legendary rap cypher of all-time. When we say everyone showed up, EVERYONE showed up. From Rakim to Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest to the Wu-Tang Clan. Dope lyrics and true off-the-dome freestylying was on display which is one of the key pillars of hip-hop and makes Yo! MTV Raps as a show and the cypher itself both #CultureClassics.
